Stripping shovels, also known as a power shovel or mining shovel, are large machines primarily used in mines to strip away rock and other earth materials to uncover coal, ironstone, and limestone. The machines have a revolving deck with an extended shovel that starts at the base of a bank and move upwards carving away earth. The machine then rotates and empties the shovel in a pile or onto a hauler truck.
